Last October 16, at the Sixth Roundtable of Mayors and Ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) held in Mexico City, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the next three years.
This MOU aims to strengthen collaboration between the two organizations and promote the development of territorial policies. The OECD has intensified dialogue with cities and regions under the premise that it is only possible to advance on development if we take into account the cities and local governments, due to their proximity to citizens and role as key actors the implementation of public policies. It is worth highlighting the importance of their role in immigration policies and the host as well as the provision and access to basic services. In this line, UCLG considers effective governance processes goes through real decentralization, essential elements to overcome current challenges.
